Hi MAC experts, I just ordered a set of four CDs from Amazon. It says they are 'Windows 3.1x/95/98 and Macintosh System 7.01+' compatible on the back of the CD case. When I bought it, they just said Windows and Mac compatible online. Well, these interactive learning CDs were last made in 1998, so they are old. The CDs were new when I received them, still sealed and no scratches. The CDs are made by DK (Dorling Kindersley). I went to the DK website and it doesn't look like they even make computer media anymore, only books.
Then I clicked around to find some support for computer media and it kept leading to errors to old websites that are no longer set up. Here's the problem: I put the CD in the drive on my MacBook Pro. When I click on the folder, I get this notice. You can't open the application 'My Amazing Human Body' because the Classic environment is no longer supported.' I even dragged the folder to my desktop, clicked on it, and got the same response. Is there an update or something I can download to make these CDs work?
The other CDs I received are as follows: My First Amazing History Explorer, My First Amazing Science Explorer, My First Amazing World Explorer 2.0. If anyone could help me out, I would really appreciate it!! My kids played these games on the (old) computer at our local library. I was so impressed with them, that I hunted them down to buy for my computer.

Christee MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2) Posted on Aug 7, 2013 12:12 PM. It's even worse than the first two commenters suggested. The 'Classic environment' indicates that this CD is very old. 15 years is forever in computer years. Whoever wrote 'Macintosh System 7.01+' back then had no way of knowing there would be two major changes of hardware platform and major upheavals of operating system coming in the Mac world. System 7.01 ran natively on 68000 hardware - before the PowerPC (PPC). The Classic environment ran the System 9 code inside a 68000 simulator running on a physical PPC processor.
The last version of Mac OS to support Classic was Mac OS X v10.4 'Tiger' running on a PowerPC. Aug 7, 2013 4:27 PM. Busymomof4 wrote: Ok. Well I was hoping there was something I could download to make it compatible with Mountain Lion. Thanks for the responses though.
Start again from scratch; here is a recent post I assembled for a similar problem: With the newer Intel Macs, you have to run a Classic emulator such as SheepShaver, which requires you to extract the Mac ROMs from your older Classic Mac and then install Mac OS 9. A related program is Chubby Bunny, which comes bundled with all of that included (google the term 'Classic-On-Intel v 4.0.1 chubby bunny'). More information on SheepShaver: and and more information about Chubby Bunny: and Here is the Classic CD-ROM version of RISK II running in SheepShaver on my Lion Mac: click on image to enlarge Aug 9, 2013 4:53 PM.
